There has been so much recent research into the benefits of dancing for Adults and it is wonderful to be able to share these benefits with our students each week. From social connection to increases in balance and co-ordination we want to see our Adults benefiting from everything Dance has to offer.
An 18 month study on seniors to assess the growth of their hippocampus and balance skills showed that the dancers, compared to the fitness group, saw a significant increase in their balance and an increase in their hippocampal volume. The hippocampus is crucial for memory, learning and spatial navigation. You can read about the full study here.
A recent Queensland Ballet study “strongly indicated that ballet participation was considered to be a highly pleasurable activity for active older adults. A love of ballet, enjoyment, feeling a sense of achievement and increased happiness were common emotional experiences that were directly attributed by participants to ballet. Ballet participation also arose as a weekly social engagement within a supportive, non-competitive, and non-judgemental community of like-minded people.” You can read about the full study here.
