Wondering what you need to do to prepare your body before you step into Ballet?

Ballet’s movement vocabulary is so different to how we hold ourselves in our everyday movement. For this reason we need to make sure we prepare our body well for our class.
Before coming in for class it is good to do a little bit of cardio. Jogging on the spot or fast walks, star jumps and small springs in parallel are all good ways to get the blood pumping through the body.

Once your body is nice and warm start warming up all the joints focusing on the hips, ankles and shoulders as they will get a lot of use in your ballet class. Laying or standing hip circles are great for warming and relaxing in the hip sockets and ankle stretch and flex as well as ankle circles are a good way to loosen up the ankle joints. For the shoulders, shoulder shrugs and shoulder circles or arm circles are a great option for warming up the shoulder joint.

Now your joints should feel warm and loose you are ready for your class!
